The world’s ballooning capital. Join a massive sunrise fleet of 100–150 balloons daily. Drift over the iconic Goreme National Park, hundreds of fairy chimneys, and surreal volcanic valleys in the most famous flight zone on Earth.
Lying in south central Turkey, the moonscaped region of Cappadocia transforms into a breathtaking aerial canvas each dawn, where dozens of colourful hot air balloons drift silently above ancient fairy chimneys and cave dwellings. Goreme, the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage site, offers the world's most spectacular hot air balloon rides, creating memories that last a lifetime for cultural tourists, honeymooners, and photography enthusiasts alike.

The inaugural hot air balloon flight in Cappadocia was conducted by Raks (a cassette tape company) as a marketing initiative in 1984. The region's first commercial passenger flight took place in 1991, operated by Robinson Club (now known as Lyki Lodge Kapadokya Hotel). Historical records indicate these pioneering commercial flights were conducted by pilots Kal and Lars. The majority of passengers on these initial commercial flights were guests staying at the Robinson Hotel.
The growing popularity of hot air balloon experiences prompted Cappadocian tourism stakeholders to make substantial investments in the ballooning industry by establishing their own operations. Throughout the 2000-2010 period, the sector's appeal led to the establishment of more than 15 balloon companies. The daily count of balloons soaring above Cappadocia increased dramatically from 5 to 100 within a decade.
During the 2010s, daily flight numbers reached concerning levels in Cappadocia, increasing the risk of mid-air collisions. This situation necessitated stricter controls on simultaneous balloon operations. To tackle the air traffic density issue, Turkey's Civil Aviation Authority enacted comprehensive regulations, including a slot allocation framework for Cappadocia's flight zone. This regulatory measure capped the maximum number of balloons permitted to operate daily in Cappadocia at 154.

The operational year was characterized by significant seasonal variance, with weather conditions playing a decisive role in flight availability. Overall, flights were unable to proceed on 142 days, representing an annual cancellation rate of approximately 39%. The months between November and March are the most challenging for operations. With a 60% cancellation rate, more than half of all scheduled flight days were grounded during this five-month window. Stability improves significantly starting in April. The cancellation rate halves (from 60% to 30%), making the April–October window the most reliable period for passengers and operators. Out of 365 days, hot air balloons were able to fly on 223 days, while weather prevented take-off on 142 days

The sunrise experience is particularly magical, as golden light bathes the otherworldly terrain whilst you float peacefully at heights of 500-1000 metres above ground level.
Goreme balloon tours offer distinct advantages over other ballooning destinations worldwide:
The large, cone-like formations were created over time by erosion of relatively soft volcanic ash around them. Past cultures have dug into them to create dwellings, castles (like Uchisar) and even entire underground cities, creating a landscape found nowhere else on Earth.
Cappadocia's continental climate provides excellent ballooning conditions, particularly during spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) when winds are gentle and visibility is exceptional.
Unlike other ballooning destinations, Cappadocia combines natural wonder with deep historical significance, offering views of Byzantine churches, ancient settlements, and archaeological sites from your aerial vantage point.
